Mountainbiking with my daughter at Dalby Forest

In September, my daughter and I had the pleasure of exploring the mountain bike trails at Dalby Forest. This was my daughter’s first trip to a purpose-built cycle route, so we decided to tackle the blue trail to start with. The trail was perfect for beginners, with plenty of fun challenges and beautiful scenery to enjoy.

For more experienced mountain bikers, the 34.3 km red route shown on the map is a great option for a longer day out. It offers a more challenging ride with plenty of technical features and stunning views of the forest.

We camped at the campsite near the entrance to the forest, which was conveniently located near the trailhead. If you’re planning to spend more than a few days at the forest, it’s worth getting a parking pass to save on the daily fees. Our days in the forest were spent cycling on the blue trail and afterwards taking a break and visited the play park and cafe in the forest.

On our rest day, we decided to explore the nearby town of Whitby. We visited the impressive Whitby Abbey, walked along the seaside, and enjoyed some delicious fish and chips by the harbour.

All in all, it was a fantastic weekend of mountain biking and camping, and we can’t wait to go back to Dalby Forest and explore more of the trails. If you’re a mountain biker looking for a great spot to hit the trails, I highly recommend giving Dalby Forest a try. And if you’re new to the sport like my daughter, the blue trail is a great place to start. For more experienced riders, the red route is a must-try.

Here are a few photos from our weekend to give you a taste of what the trails, campsite, and Whitby are like. Happy biking!

I have spent most of the last decade out on adventures with my kids, ranging from introducing them to wild camping and cycle camping to a 14 day trek along Langtang and Helembu treks as part of a longer trip to Nepal as a family. Along with a number of personal trips. My blog covers some of the highlights
